Twitter has released the “Fleets” feature in the past months. With this new feature, users were able to share text, tweets, images or videos in ‘Story’ format. “Fleets” were customizable with background colors and text options too. It was also announced that stickers and live broadcast would be added to it. But none of that happened.
Instead, the social media platform has announced that it will remove the feature. “Fleets”, which is similar to the ‘Story’ feature that first appeared on Snapchat and later became available on platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, will be removed from Twitter on August 3rd. It is said that the decision to remove Fleets is due to the low use of this feature.
Twitter announced this decision with a tweet. They said “we’re removing Fleets on August 3rd, working on some new stuff. We’re sorry or you’re welcome.” As it is understood from this tweet, the feature didn’t get enough attention. Another thing we can interpret from this tweet is that Twitter will not stop adding new features to its structure. The question is what the new feature will be. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
What do you think about removal of the fleets feature? Do you think the feature should not have been released in the first place? Or do you think it could have stayed a little longer? Leave a comment down below or hit us up on our socials! Stay tuned for more news on social media!
