The number of celebrity influencers is growing with each passing day. Celebrities usually have a large and diverse audience. So, why do they also try to get into the influencer marketing game? Let’s dive in!
The Differences Between Celebrities and Influencers
Most of the time, it is difficult to spot the differences between celebrities and influencers. Both groups have their audiences that they acquired through their work, and they are trying to interact with them on social media. So, what draws the line between these two groups? Well, if you look at it from a more specific perspective, it is possible to see the clear differences.
It goes without saying that celebrities build their reputations by excelling in one or more aspects of the entertainment industry. Celebrities typically achieve fame as a result of their success and talent in their respective fields. They also appeal to several groups at once, rather than a single age range, location, or social group. As a result, it can be said that they have a very diverse audience. Because of this diversity, it may be challenging for celebrities to fully interact with their audience as they are generally associated with luxurious lifestyles.
Influencers, on the other hand, are those who have the ability to influence and steer a certain community. They engage in promotional and marketing operations by sharing their experiences with their followers on social media regarding any product or service. They frequently build their reputation by sharing their expertise and experience in a certain area. They have a much smaller audience than celebrities if they are not Mega Influencers. Because their followers are typically people who are interested in their area of prominence, it is simpler for them to interact with their audience. In reality, the majority of them obtain content ideas from their followers, and they make sure to develop stuff that will make them appear better.
Why Are Celebrities Becoming Influencers?
The most undeniable reason why celebrities are becoming influencers is that there’s a lot of money in it. Especially during the pandemic, influencers have made a great profit by collaborating with brands as people were at home constantly, and they had a lot of free time to spend on social media. However, the same can’t be said for celebrities because most of the entertainment-related works were put aside. Considering this, celebrities have seized the opportunity to make money in an easier way, and they have taken advantage of the benefits of the digital world.
Pros and Cons for Celebrities to Become Influencers
We can list many pros and cons for celebrities who wish to become influencers. First of all, let’s start with the pros. Well, like I said it is very advantageous moneywise. It’s much easier than conventional ways of making money. Especially for celebrities who did not get great recognition for their work, being an influencer gives them a variety of chances to grow their audience. Furthermore, some celebrities are known for being rich (e.g elite family members), and getting into the influencer marketing game gives them both visibility and a chance to create content.
As for cons, the first thing that comes to my mind is that it feels a little odd to some people. Celebrities already live a luxurious life, and when they give links to products, which we know they never would use, people don’t believe in their sincerity. The most important thing in being an influencer is sharing experiences about the services/products. When celebrities give links to affordable products, they lose credibility in people’s eyes. Considering the other way around, when they give links to overpriced products, this time most people feel as if they’re being mocked. That is to say, they can’t really get out with luck.
