Instagram Brings an Age Limit to Public Accounts

Instagram has announced that accounts used by users under the age of 16 will be private as default with its new feature. This age limit is 18 in some countries. These accounts will still be offered the option to make their account public, but they will receive notifications about the beauty of using a private account.

Instagram has been working on this for a long time. In March, young people signing a message praising the benefits of having a private account began to be shown to young people who signed up for Instagram. Now, a private account is default for them. Also, accounts younger than 16 will not be displayed on the Explore, Reels, or Recommended Accounts pages.

TikTok, the big rival of Instagram, also added many features to its structure to make using TikTok safe. One of these features was deleting accounts used by those under the age of 13. That is why Instagram’s effort to secure itself is understandable. The next move of both platforms is a matter of curiosity for us.

What do you think about the new feature of Instagram? Do you think it is strong enough to encourage young people to use private accounts? Or is it just a show? Leave a comment down below or hit us up on our socials!
