A Nervous Week For the Most Popular Streamer on Twitch

The most-watched creator on Twitch; Félix “xQcOW” Lengyel has had a week filled with drama. Known for his edgy antics on Twitch, xQc already precedes a considerable reputation of woes. And after a break-up this week, Twitch users were on their heels, ready for the worst. But this time, as it turns out, it wasn’t all how it seemed. Also, a nightmare would be brought upon him by one of the world’s biggest events in the same week.

And They Were Roommates

When xQc introduced his “roommate”; @adapthebeast to his chat a few years ago, some fell for the thinly veiled lie of this supposed “roommate” but many also immediately knew the true nature of their relationship from day one. Regardless, when in March of this year they decided to go public with their relationship, popular streamers xQc and Apedt made headlines.

Until They Weren’t

Only a few months after the public acknowledgment of their true relationship, things were already going south. No prior signs of a clash of the popular couple were felt from the community prior to the news. However, it was soon made clear that their relationship wasn’t all roses. Adept, once again was the one who came out with the news. This time, however, it wasn’t good news.

After Adept’s tweet, otherwise a simple breakup tweet, became a massive controversy. As many were quick to point out, Adept’s tweet felt like it was alluding to a particularly unwelcome experience. And the Twitter community got to speculating about what could’ve happened between the couple. Many came out to defend her against an evil deed, that in reality hadn’t happened. Quickly correcting the situation, Adept explained that she and Félix had talked, and the tone of the tweet was to be addressed as it was unintentionally misleading her following.

However, after she had clarified the situation she would then find her as the enemy of the community as she was now being accused of misleading her audience knowingly. To which behavior a response would follow from xQc, also showing the signs of good faith they still had.

The Un-Sporting

xQc actually already made the headlines prior to this break-up incident in the same week. That time tough, it wasn’t personal. The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games had kicked off and there were a lot of opportunities to create content around it, or so xQc thought. As he, on his stream made the mistake of watching and reacting to a badminton game. Olympics have been known to be quite stringent on enforcing copyright against various content creators on the internet. Félix too wasn’t going to be let off the hook for he had done the ultimate mistake of showing his audience footage from the Olympics on Twitch. The Olympic Committee took action and got Lengyel banned live on Twitch.

Getting stricken with a DMCA strike for the second time in the same month, xQc said that it was “unfair”  this time and that he had “took necessary precautions”. He announced that he would object to the strike and challenge the Olympics directly. Speaking on his behalf the @videgameattorney said that they weren’t going to be suing the IOC but that they had only intended to show that their claim was justified. And said that they hoped the issue could be resolved.

Félix got his account after a short while and no further action was taken on the matter. He also seemed to have moved the conversation away from his relationship with Adept and said on his stream recently that he’s looking forward to the future. Many have also pointed out that his behavior in handling both of these situations showed a positive change in his character compared to his usual edgy and at times unlovable self.
