Influencers Are Banned From Using Filters in the UK

What will the filter ban bring?

Just when we were all getting used to seeing #ads on Instagram posts, Influencers are now banned from using filters. It all started when Cinzia Baylis-Zullo and Elly Norris used Instagram filters to promote a skin product on their skins to look “perfectly” tanned. The campaigners declared that the exploitation of Instagram filters while promoting a product manipulates and misleads followers. The Promoting Requirements Authority banned involved brands from using filters.

Moreover, the ASA ruled that if filters boost the effect of a skin or cosmetic product, it shouldn’t be used even if the filter’s name is seen on Instagram because it is still possible to deceive followers’ perception on the product. It is obligatory to state that whether the photo is filtered or not in responding to the #filterdrop campaign. If the advertising breaks these rules, it is banned which will end up damaging both the brand and influencer’s reputation. The ASA said that the main focus is raising awareness of the marketing rules and guiding influencers to make their ads right. All the UK brands, influencers, and celebrities are called for to go by the book.

#filterdrop campaign

The increase of Instagram filters led followers a culture self-hate and society-approved looks. The fact that people are concerned about how they look without filters alarmed the make-up artist Sasha Pallari.She launched #filterdrop campaign in July 2020.Her aim is to inspire many people as possible to love their natural selves. She also wishes the removal of face-changing filters from Instagram completely.

Thanks to Sasha’s and the ASA’s efforts, this year is predicted to embrace more natural and minimalist approach when it comes to the beauty industry. Skinimalism seems like to be one of the most favorite trends social media trends in 2021.

Skinimalism 

Make-up professionals came into the understanding that less is more. Overloading skin with layers of products damages it by increasing existing problems and weakening sensitivity. They say that our skins need a break and 2021 is the right time for it.
