Ever since the start of the lockdown, influencers were concerned about whether they will still be able to produce content. Yet, for many influencers, this lockdown worked out in their favor. Since followers had more time to keep up with and engage with their content, many influencers have seen engagement, and the following rise dramatically.
However, this wasn’t the case for travel influencers, whose ability to create new content relies on being able to go on new adventures and discover new places.
And while every day was a #throwback day for most travel content creators, we found two exceptions among these creators, who have been taking advantage of this period to create unique content whilst everyone else is staying at home.
Kasem Hato aka. @ibnhattuta
Kasem is a backpacker and a content creator who has been traveling during the pandemic, probably more than anyone else. His Covid19 travel adventure started when he got stuck on the paradise island of Madeira, Portugal, which he was visiting in late March when the lockdown began.
Kasem said that this lockdown time gave him the chance to experience the Island as no one did and to dive deep into the culture and create content that he wouldn’t have been able to create normally. Yet his adventure didn’t end here, after spending a couple of months there until till the travel restrictions were gradually being lifted, there was no stopping him. He got even more addicted to the idea of exploring new places. From Portugal to he continued his way to Luxembourg, Germany, Turkey, Albania, Macedonia, and last of all Ethiopia in just a few months.
Although Kasem was still able to travel, it’s undeniable that it has become much more challenging, and needs of preparations in advance in order to take necessary precautions, yet, he was never scared to take on the challenge. It takes much more work and research and pre-planning, but the memories will never fade. And he is grateful that he could still travel and create content even through these challenging circumstances.
Tom Grond aka. @traveltomtom
Tom who has been traveling the world and creating content since 2012 did not let this pandemic stop him. Although most trips have been canceled, Tom is still traveling. So what’s his secret? Well, The answer is simple he says. “While everyone else tunes in every day at 8.00 pm for the news headlines to be informed about the latest Corona updates, I am probably kicking back with a beer somewhere in a bar in Turkey, thinking about how amazing my adventures were that day.”
Tom’s Covid adventure took him to Germany, Austria, Italy, Turkey, Mexico, just to name a few. According to Tom, the most positive side of traveling during the Corona pandemic is that some of the major tourist attractions were almost abandoned. This means catching scenes on his camera which one doesn’t normally get when there are crowds. And although his Mexico trip just ended, we are sure he is already planning his next adventure.

Before the pandemic turned the world upside, the tourism industry was experiencing a steady year on year growth, and many content creators had focused on content creation and tourism marketing as their sole source of income. However, once this pandemic ends, travel content creators will be a crucial part of helping the industry recover. So, content creators should use this time to develop their skills and build relationships with their communities, to prepare for this future recovery.
