Facebook & Ray-Ban Introduce Smart Glasses

Working together, Facebook and Ray-Ban have recently created a pair of glasses they’ve called “Ray-Ban Stories”. Although these glasses are similar to Ray-Ban’s best known design “Ray-Ban Original Wayfarer Classics”, it is very different from the sunglasses we know of. The reason why this new glasses are so different from other glasses is neither the price nor the material. It is the function.

The glasses created by Facebook and Ray-Ban are camera equipped. So, it literally allows you to capture any moment in your life you wish to capture the way you see it without even using your smart phone. This feature of the glasses attracts the most attention even thought it is found creepy by some. But this is not the only feature that sets them apart. The glasses allow you to take photos and videos, but in addition you can also take phone calls and listen to music.

Now, let’s look at how Ray-Ban Stories work. In front of the glasses, there are two 5 MP cameras. All you have to do to activate the camera is push the button on the side of the frame. You can also give a voice command to activate the camera. All you have to do is say “Hey Facebook, take a video”. The glasses also have open ear speakers on the side of the frame in order to allow users to take phone calls or listen to music.

Now you have amazing photos and videos. But what to do with those unless you can share them, right? With Ray-Ban Stories, you can save 30 videos and 500 photos. Then, if you want, you can share these photos and videos directly on Facebook and Instagram, or just save them to your phone. Launched at $299 a piece, these glasses have already garnered incredible attention.

There are many who see this device as a major privacy breach, even though a small LED light is lit next to the cameras while the camera is working. In fact, it is said that these led lights are only used for this purpose. It’s debatable whether it’s a privacy violation or not, but it’s certain that Ray-Ban Stories is a big innovation.
